Pleasant Year Round Temperatures on the Gulf Coast
Anna Maria Island, with its long white sand public beaches, is a gem in Florida for real estate opportunities. An ideal vacation spot known for relaxation and good restaurants, the barrier island off Bradenton has good opportunities for full-time or seasonal residency.
Holmes Beach or Bradenton Beach offer great opportunities for boutique shopping and is surrounded by water with Palma Sola Bay on the east and the Gulf of Mexico on the west. At the northern part is Anna Maria where luxury homes rest on the wide beaches of the Gulf and Tampa Bay to the north.
Off in the distance you can occasionally catch a glimpse of a cruise ship passing under the expansive Sunshine Skyway Bridge, rated number three in the world by the Travel Channel. Feel free to book your own cruise and leave out of Tampa for Caribbean destinations.
The average temperature for daytime highs on the island is above 70 degrees, even in the winter months of January and February. A cool breeze from the gulf provides a pleasant climate June to September. With 55 inches of rain a year there are plenty of days with plenty of sunshine.
Anna Maria Island is nine miles long with beaches and marinas on either side. Stroll along the sidewalks in downtown areas and you will quickly see that this area is a culinary dream for a hungry palate after a long day on the gulf on your sail or power boat.
Known for its exclusion from the hustle of the mainland, Anna Maria Island was first connected to Bradenton by a wooden bridge in 1921. Currently roads off Manatee Avenue, Cortez Road and Gulf of Mexico Drive provide an easy access on and off the island.
Bradenton was ranked second behind Sarasota as the top art destination in the nation for small cities by readers of American Style Magazine in 2012. This distinguishes these two adjoining cities as the top cultural areas in United States.
And if sports is your fancy there are professional teams in Tampa to support. Consider the Buccaneers of the NFL, Lightning of the NHL and the Rays of the American League as your home team. Baseball fans from the north can be the first to catch their team in action as 16 major league baseball franchises start each season around the area. The Pittsburgh Pirates occupy McKechnie Field in March for home games while the class-A Bradenton Marauders display their talents in the summer, one step away from stardom in the Pirate organization.
Polo matches at the Sarasota Polo Club are regular winter events through April on Sundays, be prepared to stomp the divots like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
Residents of Bradenton take pride in the South Florida Museum with its Bishop Planetarium. The planetarium is one of 25 in the world with a high definition, digital full-dome, planet and star chart that was installed in October, 2013. The world’s oldest known manatee, “Snooty” resides in the manatee rehabilitation center aquarium there in the museum.
