Selling luxury property in Sarasota and Manatee counties has become a part of who he is and an intricate part of his professional and personal life. Needless to say, loving what you do is the beginning of the road to success, which Roger is all too familiar with.
Born in New York in 1961, Roger was originally headed for a medical career after graduating with degrees in biology and chemistry from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Life clearly had a different path for Roger in 1983 as his hope of medical school was deferred, prompting him south to Sarasota, FL, to head the marketing team for Arvida’s luxury property developments on the island of Longboat Key. Arvida, a Florida real estate company responsible for the development of several waterfront communities on Longboat, was later purchased by Disney™. As a liaison between Arvida and Disney, Roger had the opportunity to continue honing his marketing skills in real estate. In 1985, Roger began exclusively selling real estate for Arvida. His budding relationship with one of the leading residential brokerages in Florida provided valuable insight into cultivating his future selling luxury real estate in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
“Being on a team selling most of the original property on Longboat Key, such as Grand Bay, Marina Bay and The Sanctuary allowed me to get to know the island from the beginning stages of the luxury homes’ development, “ said Roger.
By the time Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate merged with Arvida in 2002, Roger’s success was palpable. As a top producer, using computers and his knowledge of cutting-edge technology, he transformed his client base and customer relationships. When he purchased a personal computer and created a website to enhance his business, one of the first Realtors® in Sarasota to do so, colleagues were skeptical. These days, Roger’s extensive use of technology to market properties has made him a leader in his market. As a member of CyberStars™, a network of top technology-oriented real estate professionals, his success is due in large part to his ability to provide his clients the full advantage of marketing through technology.
“I’ve always loved technology, so it’s been easy for me to want the latest and greatest,” said Roger. “It’s part of who I am, I think. I don’t use technology just to make my life easier, which it certainly does; I think it’s a way to better serve my customers. Plus, it makes it more fun.”
Roger’s numbers do speak for themselves. In the past 26 years Roger has sold over $1 billion of luxury property in Sarasota and Manatee counties. During the 2005 housing boom Roger experienced his best year, selling $54 million. And when the market began to take a downturn in 2007, Roger managed to consistently close an average of $40 million in property sales for three years. In 2010 he sold more than $40 million, which was $14 million more than the next single agent. For two consecutive years, Roger has been named the number one Realtor® for Sarasota and Manatee counties and the number one Coldwell Banker agent for the southeast region.
Roger’s success can also be attributed to how strongly he believes in what does and the community in which he works.
