Residents love their homes at the Players Club on Longboat Key. This is a highly sought-after community based on its location, amenities and recent upgrades, so a residence available for sale in this community is a rare occurrence. I have two listings there in different buildings that are worthy of feature reviews. This is not my first discussion of the Players Club, I highlighted this grand community last week in REALTALK™ #192 and its upgrades in REALTALK™ #78. The Players Club is on the Gulf of Mexico shores, with gorgeous sunset views and white sandy beaches.

This community was built in the years from 1981 to 1983. At the time Longboat Key had established itself as a tennis center and many of the top pros journeyed to the island to learn from the masters of tennis. The famous coach Nick Bollettieri was well established among the elite stars when he conducted his training at the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort in the late 70s. That was before moving his academy to Bradenton, and the eventual formation of IMG Academy. Today student athletes from around the world train at IMG in tennis and other popular sports of today.

With the popularity of tennis on the island the Players Club evolved into a first-rate community. The four Har-Tru tennis courts serve the community as just some of the many amenities. The many renovations include a stylish new clubhouse with a game room, library and granite catering kitchen. The fitness center has also been renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art exercise furnishings.

The Players Club had its own list of amenities that was attractive before the renovation. With the tennis courts, there is an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool and spa. A putting green keeps golfers sharp on their short game. And of course the boardwalk to the beach is a pleasure to enjoy.

Its location sets it apart from other communities in that it is roughly midway between St. Armands Circle and the Publix Shopping center. Drive a short distance south and you are in St. Armands with its boutique shopping, fine dining and nightlife entertainment. Travel north by bicycle or car and you are in the shopping center with its anchor stores of CVS and Publix. A new Chase bank branch recently opened for your convenience.

And now the Players Club has become more valuable as an investment just for its location. With the planned development of the St. Regis resort next door on the old site of the Colony, the five-star hotel and residence community will be an attraction that will bring much value to the island. This may create an appreciation of the 134 properties that are in four buildings of the Players Club. The Colony sits vacant following the building demolition, replanted with fresh grass until construction can begin.
